Elizabeth was born in Ashley on the
Staffordshire/Shropshire border on 25th
Jul 1881 and went to school in Market Drayton,
Shropshire.
She later lived
with her parents in Wybunbury, Cheshire and in
1901 is recorded to have been living at 55 Hospital
Street, Nantwich with the Parsonage family at
the age of 21 years as a ‘General Domestic
Servant’.
She then moved
to Crewe where she married Frederick Sandland.
Their marriage certificate shows them both
living at 16 Bank Street, Crewe at the time of
their marriage on 31st Oct 1903 at Christ
Church, Crewe. They had four children.
They lived the
early part of their married life at 21 Hawthorne
Avenue, Willaston, Nantwich and were known to
have lived in two places in Shavington - one
place was then called "The Bag" (now Osbourne
Grove) and the other was Alma Buildings, Main
Road.
They moved to Willaston and lived at two
addresses in Wistaston Road before finally
settling at number 25 (now renumbered 16) next
to then Moseley's butchers shop.
In 1932 Elizabeth had one of her breasts removed
(due to cancer of the breast) and she remained
in ill health for the rest of her life.
She died
12 months later on 10th Oct 1933 at
the age of 52 years as a result of breast cancer
and was buried in the cemetery at Wistaston
Church on 12th Oct 1933.
Her son-in-law, Norman Shaw (husband of Irene
Mollie) was subsequently buried in the same
grave in 1987. Also her daughter Irene Mollie
was buried in the same grave in 1992
