Maria was born in Whitchurch Abt. 1816 and baptised at St Alkmonds, Whitchurch on 1st Jan 1816.

She lived at Havannah Buildings at the time of her marriage to Robert Sandland in Whitchurch on 16th Mar 1838. She was probably unable to read or write as she signed her marriage certificate with her mark of "X". They had eight children.

She was not shown on the 1871 census for Shrewbridge Lane, Nantwich where her husband and two children, Edward and Elizabeth, were recorded at that time and it is assumed that she and Robert lived apart by then.

Maria was later shown in 1881 to be living with Robert's brother Edward Sandland at Green End, Whitchurch with the occupation of general domestic servant at the age of 62 years.

Maria died on 28 March 1882 in Silverdale, Staffordshire at the age of 64 years.

The cause of death was recorded as Bronchitis. It would appear that Maria was shown as living with or close to her daughter Elizabeth in Silverdale at the time of her death. The Informant on the Death Certificate is shown as Henry Mullineux, husband of Maria's other daughter, Sarah.
