Biography

Job Sheriff was born in Birmingham, England on 24th May 1841 and baptised on 1st Jan 1845 in Saffron Hill, Holborn, London. His father was recorded to be John Sandland, a Silversmith from Birmingham, England.

It would appear that Job Sheriff attended Wick Hall Boarding School (** see footnote) in Hackney, London as he is shown there as a pupil in 1851 at the age of 9 years.

In 1861 he is recorded to have been a Tobacconist in Lady Wood, Birmingham at the age of 20 years.

Job Sheriff married a Rosa Hacker on 13th Nov 1867 in Holborn, London and they lived in Peckham. They had one child. Rosa died on 8th Oct 1868 - her estate was left to Job Sheriff who was recorded to have been a Gas Engineer at that time (* see footnote).

He married his second wife Matilda Jane Maria Barefoot on 31st Mar 1870 at Lewisham, London and they had eleven children.

By 1871 Job Sheriff had moved to Forest Hill, Lewisham, Kent and was shown to be an 'Agent' at the approximate age of 32 years. By 1881 he was shown to be in Camberwell, London as a Gas Engineer at the age of 40 years.

He died during the second quarter 1900 in Lewisham.
