** Wick House was turned into a boys' boarding
school, entitled Wick Hall Collegiate,
commercial, and scientific school, in1841 but
was again in private occupation in 1861, shortly
before its demolition (From: 'Hackney:
Education', A History of the County of
Middlesex: Volume 10: Hackney (1995), pp.
148-165).
*** John (Job Sheriff's father) was a
Silversmith from Birmingham, West Midlands,
England - b. 1804 Birmingham, UK - d. 1974
Warwickshire, UK. John married Sarah Bowler Cole
in Yardley, Warwickshire. John and Sarah then
lived in New Haven, Connecticut, USA for a
white (Abt. 1825 to 1834) and had their first
four children there. They returned to
Birmingham, England Abt 1834-36 and had five
more children - one being Job Sheriff (this
record).

Biography
Job Sheriff
was born in Birmingham, England
on 24th May 1841 and baptised on 1st Jan 1845 in
Saffron Hill, Holborn, London. His father was
recorded to be
John Sandland, a Silversmith from Birmingham,
England.
It would appear that Job Sheriff
attended Wick Hall Boarding School (** see
footnote) in Hackney,
London as he is shown there as a pupil in 1851
at the age of 9 years.
In 1861 he is recorded to
have been a Tobacconist in Lady Wood, Birmingham
at the age of 20 years.
Job Sheriff married a Rosa Hacker on 13th Nov 1867
in Holborn, London and they lived in Peckham.
They had one child. Rosa died on 8th Oct 1868 - her estate was left
to Job Sheriff who was recorded to have been a
Gas Engineer at that time (* see footnote).
He married his second wife Matilda Jane Maria
Barefoot on 31st Mar 1870 at Lewisham, London and
they had eleven children.
By 1871 Job Sheriff had moved to
Forest Hill, Lewisham, Kent and was shown to be
an 'Agent' at the approximate age of 32 years.
By 1881 he was shown to be in Camberwell, London
as a Gas Engineer at the age of 40 years.
He died during the second quarter
1900 in Lewisham.
